Join us for The Sixth Act Night at Rent!

The Sixth Act invites all MCC faculty, staff, and students to join us THIS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 22, AT 7:30 PM to see VaPA’s production of Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer- and Tony-winning rock musical RENT, followed by a special talkback with Professor Heather Fox and the student artists involved. Tickets can be purchased at

RENT is a modern re-telling of Puccini’s opera LA BOHEME, focused on a group of young artists in NYC struggling with poverty, race- and sex-based discrimination, and the devastation of HIV/AIDS. The story is both challenging and accessible, both devastating and uplifting. The Sixth Act is thrilled to support this production and to host a conversation about the production’s themes and process afterwards.

Please contact Maria Brandt ("") with any questions regarding the event and/or to receive an electronic packet filled with RENT-related materials. This packet, as well as the full script of RENT, also is on reserve at the MCC library.

Formed in 2004, The Sixth Act provides co-curricular support for the study of drama across disciplines at MCC. To this end, The Sixth Act (1) develops co-curricular events and materials for MCC faculty and students, especially those who might teach or study plays or playwriting, and (2) provides enrichment opportunities to encourage all MCC faculty, students, and staff to see and talk about plays produced at MCC and in the Rochester area. The Sixth Act seeks as its leaders faculty, staff, and students drawn from a variety of academic disciplines and departments. The Sixth Act is supported by MCC’s Creative Arts Committee and Liberal Arts Program.
