HSMI and four other lead community colleges that were recently awarded a Federal Grant gave presentations on the Role of Community Colleges in Citizen Preparedness Training. The presentation highlighted opportunities for community colleges through a 2008 grant awarded from the Department of Homeland Security to participate in a Community College Citizen Preparedness Program to train a minimum of 500,000 US citizens through the nation's community colleges over a three year period. The preparedness training will focus on specific protective actions to save lives and minimize injuries after a disaster and before arrival of first responders.
