MCC Team Qualifies for National Flight Competition

The MCC Aircraft Design team recently qualified for the final fly-off stage of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Design/Build/Fly competition to be held April 15-17 in Tucson, Arizona.  Of the 41 teams that qualified, MCC was the only one from a community college.  Other qualifying schools include MIT, Purdue, Duke, and Arizona State.

The Design/Build/Fly Competition requires students to design and build a battery powered RC controlled aircraft that can be transported in a standard size suitcase and assembled on site in less than 5 minutes.  The plane must then complete a series of flights to test the aircraft’s speed, maneuverability, and lifting capabilities.  The MCC team is led by Engineering Science students Justin Staskiewicz and Steve Powers.
