CSTEP Students Attend Conference; Student Wins First Place
MCC CSTEP students attended the 19th Annual Statewide Student Conference: “Journeys Beyond Excellence”. Three students competed in the poster competitions which were based on field studies or research conducted last summer. The titles of their posters were as follows: Shartrice Roberts - Evaluation of DRD2 as a Pertinent Gene for the Aggressive Temperament in Equus caballus; Shawn Gist - Identifying Prunus in Wayne County, NY to Track Spreading of the Plum Pox Virus to Achieve a Goal of Eradication; and Mohamed Mohamed - The Effects of Monoamine Depletion on Motor Performance and L-DOPA-Induced Dyskinesia in the Hemiparkinsonian Rat. Additionally, Kody Fernaays served as Conference Ambassador. Congratulations to Mohamed Mohamed who placed first in the Natural Sciences VII category (picture is attached). CSTEP is funded by a grant from the NYS Education Department. Its mission is to increase the numbers of historically underrepresented individuals pursuing careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) and the licensed professions. The CSTEP conference attracts hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students from across NYS to participate in professional development and academic skill-building workshops, networking activities, oral and poster competitions. Speakers include national experts who are committed to the CSTEP goal. Joann Santos
