MCC highlighted in AAC&U News
In 2019, MCC joined nineteen other community colleges from around the country in an ambitious two-year project to clarify students’ educational pathways, make their educational experiences more engaging, and improve learning assessment.
MCC is one of three of these colleges highlighted in the recent article on the successes of this AAC&U grant initiative.
The MCC project featured three main components:
- DEI in teaching, learning, and assessment
- Connecting assessment of student learning, pedagogy, curriculum, and high-impact practices
- Scaling high-impact practices to improve access to high-quality educational experiences
The hallmark of this grant initiative was the AAC&U VALUE Institute for which a cross-disciplinary team of MCC faculty and administrators designed an equity-minded assignment for biology students. Biology faculty subsequently submitted student work to certified scorers who used a VALUE rubric to assess students’ mastery of critical thinking in Writing-Intensive courses.
