Flags at Half-Staff Today

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags be flown at half-staff on Thursday, April 28 in honor of a Fort Drum soldier who died in Kapisa Province, Afghanistan on April 23.

Chief Warrant Officer Terry L. Varnadore II was assigned to the 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion of the 10th Mountain Division's 10th Combat Aviation Brigade and died when his helicopter crashed due to an undetermined cause that is still under investigation.

"We join with the family and friends of Chief Warrant Officer Varnadore in mourning his loss," Governor Cuomo said. "Chief Warrant Officer Varnadore was originally from Pennsylvania, but was based at Fort Drum, NY, and our hearts go out to his fellow soldiers."
