Passing of Cheryl Mart, Retiree in Science, Health and Business

The MCC family mourns the passing of Cheryl Mart, retired administrative assistant in Science, Health and Business, on March 25, 2023.

Ms. Mart joined MCC as a clerk in the Admissions Office in 1978, then a few years later began working in the English Department. In 1988, she moved on to work as secretary for deans in Arts & Humanities, Social & Behavioral Sciences, Business Administration, and Liberal Arts. She was later promoted to administrative assistant to the dean of Science, Health and Business until her retirement.

Ms. Mart was widely respected for her knowledge of MCC pathways, the wisdom she brought to the academic services division, and the advice she often provided to managers and colleagues. One of the deans once said she was always the first one he turned to for help in understanding MCC culture and for assistance in solving problems.

In recognition of her outstanding service to the College, Ms. Mart received the 1985 Distinguished Service Award for Support Staff.

Her service to the College included her leadership as co-captain for the MCC Foundation’s Building on Success campaign, participation on the Support Staff Professional Development Committee for many years and on many support staff search/hiring committees throughout the College.

She retired in 2009 after 31 years of service. A congratulatory letter from a vice president in 2009 stated, “How does one adequately thank a colleague as helpful as you after so many years of exemplary service. I have so many memories of your professional and personal helpfulness, wise suggestions and historical recall necessary to adequately position a current dilemma. You're the best, Cheryl!”

Ms. Mart earned an associate degree from Greenfield Community College.

Predeceased by her parents Domenic and Cecilia Imbriglio and brother Gary, Ms. Mart is survived by her husband of 25 years, Kenneth; son Leonard (LoAnn) Desmond; two grandchildren; a brother and a sister; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at Falvo Funeral Home, 1395 N. Goodman Street, Rochester, NY 14609. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Supportive Care of Orleans, 14080 Route 31 West, Albion, NY 14411.

Her obituary is available on Falvo Funeral Home’s website.

MCC extends condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues. We are grateful for her many contributions and service to MCC.
