Parker and Revello Present at NYCLSA

Jason Parker, Director, Learning Support Systems, and Sara Revello, Coordinator, Course-Based Learning Assistance, led a session titled Championing Diversity, Equity and Access to Foster a Sense of Belonging at the New York College Learning Skills Association (NYCLSA) in Syracuse on March 12 and 13. The session summary: During a consolidation of tutoring into one center at Monroe Community College, the college re-envisioned how they offer their programming. Students, tutors, faculty, and staff were asked how the program could improve and what they are looking for in services. They made a major change to the ethos of their center, focusing on customer service and a non-deficit-based approach. They also reorganized their center in a way that lets students of all backgrounds know they are welcome.  They accomplished this through art, diverse hiring of student workers, and making sure all students on both of their campuses have access to the same services.
