Credit Card Program Gets Help from MCC

A Service-Learning Learning Community, the first of its kind, is participating in a collaborative project among secondary and higher education schools across Rochester.

Service-Learning is connected to curriculum and allows students to learn and develop through community projects that are defined by the participating organization. This particular Service-Learning project is being undertaken by a Learning Community, similar to a cohort, of two courses on the Damon City Campus – Introduction to Sociology, SOC 101, and Personal Money Management, ECO 103 – taught by professors Anne Ranczuch and Sumati Devadutt, respectively.

The project supports Credit and Resistance Education Program (CARE), a program started in November 2002 to teach high school and college students lessons, tactics and techniques to help them avoid overspending and abuse of consumer credit. The program is managed by John C. Ninfo, chief U.S. bankruptcy judge for the western district of New York.

MCC students are periodically researching and assessing CARE’s online content and materials (at "https://www.careprogram.us" www.careprogram.us) and will make recommendations to the program administrators. MCC’s effort joins others at RIT, Nazareth College, SUNY Brockport and Greece Athena High School.
