Autism Awareness Month and Events

Please join the Counseling Center, Disability Services and Health Services office as we celebrate Autism Awareness month for the month of April. Our office has coordinated events for faculty, staff and students to learn more about Autism Spectrum Disorder. Please see details below and consider helping us spread the word!

Autism Facts

• Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex bio-neurological developmental disability that generally appears before the age of three. ASD may affect a person’s ability to communicate, and interact with others. ASD is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a “spectrum condition” that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees.
• In 2023, the CDC reported that approximately 1 in 36 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), according to 2020 data.
• Autism is diagnosed four times more often in boys than girls. 
• Autism affects all ethnic and socioeconomic groups.
• Early intervention affords the best opportunity to support healthy development and deliver benefits across the lifespan.
