Carballada Scholarship Puts Kids on Path to MCC

Twenty kindergarten students in Michele Carballada’s class at Adlai E. Stevenson School No. 29 learned that a unique scholarship to Monroe Community College is available after they graduate from high school.

The Carballada Endowed Scholarship Fund for Rochester City Students honors Carballada’s 12-year teaching career with the Rochester City School District. The fund was established by Carballada’s parents, Virginia and Carlos Carballada, with the help of the Monroe Community College Foundation.

This is the second year the Carballadas came to the school to announce the scholarship. They were joined by representatives of the MCC Foundation and the Rochester City School District.

“Now nothing will hold you back,” Carlos Carballada told the students. “Michele has given you an opportunity.”

“It will be a long time before they graduate, but it’s exciting,” said Virginia Carballada.
