Wanted: COS 181 Mentors

The ESOL/TRS department is piloting an academic recovery course, Strategies for Academic Success-COS 181 this upcoming Spring 2023 semester. This course is designed for students who are striving to achieve Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and to advance in their program of study.

A key component to this course will be a connection with a mentor in the College community. A mentor can be a positive influence in a student’s life, help students discover answers, find alternate solutions, and brainstorm needed resources. The mentor’s role is that of a supporter and guide.  Mentors and their students will meet (in person or virtually) throughout the semester to check in on the student’s progress.

If you are interested in volunteering to be a mentor to one of our COS 181 students this Spring, please complete the COS 181 Mentors form. Anyone who works at the College is eligible to volunteer to be a mentor.

We will follow up with mentors before the Spring semester starts with more specific guidance regarding your role. At the beginning of the Spring semester, we will match volunteers to a student in the COS 181 course.

Thank you for considering volunteering for this exciting new initiative!
