Virtual Advising Professional Development - Get ready for priority advisement and registration

Priority advisement and registration begins on Monday, April 10th.  Advisement and Transfer Services and the Schools at MCC are pleased to offer virtual workshops to help advisors get ready to advise students.  

  • I Don't Know Where to Look: Academic Advising Essentials Workshop
    This workshop designed to answer the most frequently asked questions regarding advisement.  If you have trouble finding the answers you seek when it comes to helping students or are new to advising, then this workshop is for you. Learn the basics about Admit to Program, Advisement Keys, English and Math placements, Financial Aid Course Eligibility (FACE), Holds, Major Change Process, Registration Basics and Transferring in and out of MCC.

  • Advising for SAP Workshop
    How do I effectively work with students who are not making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)?  This session will help you answer that question!  Degree Works will be utilized to identify and interpret students’ academic standing, how they got to that standing, and what requirements will need to be met to get them back into compliance.  Best practices for advising in subsequent semesters will be discussed.  Common themes that impact students’ academic progress will be shared, and available resources to support student success will be highlighted.   An overview of the College’s SAP Policy, and the academic review process will be looked at in preparation for this discussion.

  • Degree Works Update
    Join us to learn about features in the latest release of Degree Works.  We will discuss the prerequisite block and demonstrate how to navigate the newest version of Degree Works.

  • Open Zoom Room
    To get ready for advising your caseload, consider dropping by our Zoom room for an advising consultation.  Faculty advisors are encouraged to stop by for support in advising technology, processes and practices.  Sally and Gary are happy help address questions or provide guidance for specific student situations.
