GOVERNOR PATERSON DIRECTS FLAGS TO BE FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF

Governor David A. Paterson has directed that flags on State government buildings be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, in honor of Buffalo, New York resident Army Sergeant Daniel J. Beard, who died on April 3, 2009, in Al Diwaniyah, Iraq, and Holland Patent, New York resident Marine Lance Corporal Blaise A. Oleski, who died on April 8, 2009, in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

Sergeant Beard, a member of the 147th Postal Company, of the 21st Theater Sustainment Command, based in Wiesbaden, Germany, died in a non-combat related incident.

Lance Corporal Oleski, a member of the 3rd battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, a part of the II Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, died while supporting combat operations.

“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I wish to extend our sympathy and condolences to the family, friends and fellow service members of Sergeant Daniel Beard and Lance Corporal Blaise Oleski.” said Governor Paterson. “We will always recall their service with pride and undying gratitude, and will never forget the profound sacrifice they have made on behalf of the United States of America.”

Governor Paterson has directed the flags on all State buildings to be lowered to half-staff in honor and tribute to our State’s service members who are killed in action.
