Political Campaign Activities by State Employees

In light of the campaign season, we remind all employees of the necessary separation of political campaign activities from the conduct of official college business. While employees are not discouraged from participating in the political campaign process, there must be a clear separation between any political campaign activities -- defined as any activity or event designed to urge voters to vote for a particular person, support a political party, or to raise funds for a candidate or party -- and the proper discharge of their duties as public employees. Furthermore, college resources should never be used for personal activities, including political activities.

For more information on political activities as they relate to public employees, check out the web site of the New York State Ethics Commission, https://www.dos.state.ny.us/ethc/poliacts.html .
