TCC Gratitude Series, Day 8: Kudos for Putting the M in STEM!

Today, the TCC would like to honor the good work of some faculty who teach mathematics courses, as written by their students. We hope you enjoy reading these as much as we did.

Amanda Colosimo and Terry Shamblin
Interim TCC Co-Coordinators

  • Linda Carson, Mathematics
    • Professor Carson's class has been the hardest math class I've ever taken. With that being said, her demeanor has been warm and understanding and even though the material itself was brutal, I've enjoyed learning from her. Thank you for being the light at the end of the mathematical-tunnel :)
  • Mary Ellen Gleason, ESOL/Transitional Studies
    • Really solid professor. Very accommodating with the new Brightspace and just a joy to interact with.
  • Thomas Heidt, Mathematics
    • Professor Heidt is a very descriptive teacher, who makes it clear what he expects from students. What he expects is also reasonable, fair, and has never been an overwhelming amount of work. He has a great deal of flexible office hours and is always willing to assist students who come in for extra help.
  • Steve KilnerMathematics
    • Professor Kilner does an amazing job at being as accommodating as possible for his students. He goes above and beyond during his lectures—even his 9 AMs—and wants to see you pass his courses. It's always a wonder how energetic he is in the morning and he leaves nothing to conjecture.
  • Brigitte Martineau, Mathematics
    • Professor Martineau is extremely helpful! Her class design is very simple and easy to follow as an online student. She cares for every individual student and goes above and beyond to make sure the environment is productive as well as rewarding.
  • Rachel Santiago, Mathematics: 3 nominations!
    • Professor Santiago is engaging, positive and exciting to listen to in lecture and you don't feel strange asking any question. She will go out of her way to help explain in a more understanding way and she is understanding of personal circumstances as well.
    • This professor has been so patient and understanding with me in helping me with my math. Ms. Rachel Santiago always go beyond her job description by patiently going over the homework and the lesson that she is teaching us. The classroom is a safe haven and we can bring any concerns to her and she is willing to listen. Ms. Santiago is an Exceptional and Awesome professor. I would recommend that any students should take her 098 Math class. Thank you for your time and dedication.
    • She is very understanding and patient. I am taking a flexible pace math class and she is helping me my setting goals and sitting with me and helping me with the math problems.
  • Michael A. Wagner, Mathematics
    • Professor Wagner is an incredibly fair teacher. All material is thoroughly covered in class and exams are solely on the covered units. Questions are answered immediately and Professor Wagner is clearly enthusiastic about mathematics.
  • Michael Williams, Mathematics
    • He is a very unique, funny and kind man. He makes everyone welcome in his class. He literally was doing his best to give me time and care to make up assignments (I hated that I had to withdraw from all my classes because my issues with my eyes got out of hand). He takes his time and answers questions. He makes sure everyone gets it before moving forward. If you fail his class, it's either you didn't pay attention or did not ask for help and of course didn't do the work. There was also a student from our class who would help in the learning lab that he would put up hours for. Professor Michael Williams is awesome. He teaches statistics. I would choose him again. I love when my son sat in without warning, he did not kick him out of class. In fact during that one visit, my son was overjoyed at learning something new, considering learning any math has always been difficult for him. He even asked Professor Williams to be a mentor/tutor. Thank you for hiring him. Every professor could learn how to be more like him, but in their own way.
