Brightspace First Day Slowness and Banner not Syncing to Brightspace

We hope you had a good start to your semester. We wanted to share the following updates about Brightspace.

On 8/29, in the morning around 10am, Brightspace was experiencing some slowness and timeout errors, but was fully restored by 1pm. This may have prevented some users from accessing their courses during this window of time.

Please be aware that we are also currently troubleshooting another issue with enrollments not properly syncing from Banner to Brightspace. For most users, this will not have a direct impact on your use of Brightspace. If you have just been added or dropped from a course within the last several days, please read on, as this may impact your ability to login to Brightspace and/or access your course(s).

What this means: Late registering students may have not been added to Brightspace preventing them from seeing materials in their Brightspace courses and/or not having access to Zoom links for remote courses. If students changed course sections, they may still be enrolled in the wrong course and not have enrolled correctly in the new course section.  If faculty are brand new to MCC and were just assigned to a course within the last several days, they may not have access to their own Brightspace course. Other faculty adjustments may not be reflected properly in Brightspace.

What we are doing: We are working with the SICAS team to understand the problem and will update when we have a resolution.

In the meantime, if you are a faculty offering a remote course, please review your Banner roster closely with your Brightspace Classlist and send your zoom information to students that may not have Brightspace access. You may also wish to record your meeting to share with any students that could not make it to their first class. Please be understanding during this transition. If you are teaching an online/hybrid/hyflex course, you may wish to share your CIS directly with students through MCC email so students can get started while waiting for Brightspace access.

We appreciate your patience as we work through this.
