The Monroe Community College Office of Public Safety would like to advise the college community that an attempted identity theft incident recently took place with one of our students. The suspect called the student at home, (the suspect asked for her by name), represented himself as an employee of MCC’s Financial Aid Office, and attempted to get the student to give him her Social Security number, address, and birthdate. When the student became suspicious, as she had already given this information to Financial Aid, the suspect hung up. Obviously, this student prevented herself from becoming a victim by wisely not giving personal information over the phone.
