TCC: Thank you, Transitional Studies Adjunct Faculty!

Transitional Studies adjunct faculty teach developmental math, co-requisite math, integrated reading and writing, co-requisite English, career exploration, and college success courses. Some transitional studies adjuncts are discipline-specific and many teach across the courses we offer. We have more than 125 adjuncts who are ready to serve and teach our students!

Every day our adjuncts can be found working with students outside of the classroom. Not only do they hold office hours and tutor students, but they can also be found developing relationships with students over coffee or just stopping to chat in the hallway. The TRS adjuncts are often walking students to counseling, advising, the bookstore, library, or the TAAC, to ensure students get the help they need to be successful at MCC and in life.

The last three years have brought changes that profoundly affect the way we teach.  We started offering career exploration courses, revised course learning outcomes, and experienced significant curriculum modifications. Many of our courses use Open Educational Resources (OER) to benefit students. Our adjunct faculty help us fine tune our OERs and other course materials.  As a result of the pandemic, they quickly became experts in teaching remotely and online.  As enrollment started to increase again, our adjunct faculty have often been assigned courses at the last minute with little time to prepare. Even with all the changes, our adjuncts never missed a beat. They proved themselves to be flexible, creative collaborators who approached challenges with grace and good humor.

Thank you, adjunct faculty, for being a part of the Transitional Studies team and helping MCC students transition to college, explore careers, and develop foundational skills to propel them toward achieving their goals! It cannot be overstated how important your role is to MCC students. The personal connections you make with students are a critical factor in student success. Thank you for all you do!
