MCC Media Protocols

MCC employees are, at times, directly contacted by reporters to provide perspectives on current events and trends.  If you are contacted by a reporter, please keep in mind the college’s media protocols.

MEDIA PROTOCOLS
MCC employees should discuss MCC programs, policies, procedures, positions, people, etc., with reporters only after obtaining approval of the MCC College and Community Relations Office. Further, employees should not speak for the college or be perceived as speaking for the college without College and Community Relations Office approval.

MCC faculty are encouraged to contribute to the community dialogue from the perspective of their field of expertise. These opportunities sometimes come through the College and Community Relations Office and sometimes reporters contact faculty directly. Faculty may grant interviews with reporters or offer other commentary from their area of expertise without consulting the College and Community Relations Office. With that said, it is helpful if those media contacts are brought to the attention of the College and Community Relations Office so that we have the fullest picture possible of the College in the news, and so we can amplify the news media coverage, as appropriate. The College and Community Relations Office is available to assist faculty members in preparing for or facilitating media interviews.

When speaking publicly via the news media on a topic not related to MCC, MCC employees should identify themselves by their MCC affiliation only when it is relevant to the topic and only with the prior consent of the College and Community Relations Office.

Please do not hesitate to contact me or any College and Community Relations professional staff member with questions. Thank you.
