TV Stations Cover Mobile Lab's Visit to MCC

WHAM-TV and WROC-TV visited the Brighton Campus on Tuesday (Sept. 19) to see Thorlabs' mobile lab as it stopped in Rochester during a cross-country tour promoting optics/photonics education and careers.

Alexis Vogt, Ph.D., chair and professor of optical systems technology, was interviewed by both TV stations:

  • "Optics and photonics enable everything in our world — whether it's our smartphones or our smart watches or our back-up cameras or the lenses that are going into space protecting our national security."
  • "We're always looking to grow our program. The students who make excellent optics technicians are artists, musicians, gamers, chefs, mechanics, athletes. We're looking to bring them into our program here at MCC to train them and then help them find jobs."
  • "It is really remarkable to have Thorlabs bring their mobile lab unit here because Rochester is the birthplace of optics in the entire country. Because of Kodak, Bausch and Lomb, and Xerox, we now have over 120 optics companies that are growing like crazy."
