Formation of the Federal Compliance Response Committee
As you are likely aware, over the past several weeks, the new presidential administration has made several announcements regarding education in the United States, including higher education. Please know that our Executive Leadership Team and I are closely monitoring these developments and their potential impact on our College community.
Most recently, it was announced that the U.S. Department of Education initiated a reduction in force (RIF), impacting nearly 50 percent of the Department's workforce and resulting in 1,315 employees being immediately laid off. These reductions are in addition to almost 600 employees who took buyouts earlier this year. At this point, we have no details on which offices and personnel were affected.
The Department of Education decision and other recent federal actions raise many questions about the programs and services our students, faculty, staff and entire College community rely upon daily. We are in close contact with SUNY, the American Association of Community College (AACC), and other trusted partners to understand the potential implications of these actions and will continue to keep you informed.
In continuation of our commitment to ensuring MCC is well-informed and prepared to respond to updates expeditiously, I am announcing the formation of the MCC Federal Compliance Response Committee. This dedicated group provides strategic recommendations and informed guidance on key institutional decisions related to federal compliance matters. The committee will convene as needed and report to the Office of the President.
Thus far, the Federal Compliance Response Committee comprises the following initial members. Additions will be made to the Committee as deemed appropriate to ensure a broad representation of perspective and expertise.
- Brenda Ronan, Co-chair
- Carolyn Hunt, Co-chair
- Stephen Wise
- Ryan Messenger
- Shannon Glasgow
- Katie Ghidiu
- Kim DeLardge
- Christina Lee
- Patrick Morris
I sincerely thank these individuals for their willingness to serve in this vital capacity. Their expertise, dedication, and commitment to Monroe Community College will help shape our institutional policies and ensure we navigate federal regulations effectively. Their work will protect our compliance standing and foster a stronger, more resilient College environment for all.
I look forward to this committee's contributions and am confident that we will continue to uphold Monroe Community College's academic excellence and student-focused service tradition.
DeAnna Burt-Nanna
