In his 2019 executive budget proposal, Gov. Cuomo has proposed that the state partner with MCC to launch a new workforce data initiative.
For over the past seven years, MCC's Economic and Workforce Development Center has worked to identify and address the precise skills shortages felt by employers in Rochester and beyond. The process involved gathering, organizing and analyzing local labor market data, including the labor market outcomes of MCC graduates.
MCC has gone from measuring regional skills gaps and creating an accelerated precision tooling certificate program to estimating the value to the regional economy of training people for middle-skill jobs. MCC sees its approach of using data to improve student success as a model for 21st-century workforce development at community colleges.
