Coronavirus: SUNY Suspends Study Abroad Programs, Campus-sponsored Travel to Impacted Countries

Thank you for your efforts to stay healthy and take appropriate actions to prevent and slow the spread of the novel coronavirus within the campus community. Three things to know and do at this time:

If you have ...

  1. A fever, cough and shortness of breath and pneumonia-like symptoms, or if you have been around someone with those symptoms, stay home and do not come to campus.
  2. Any questions about the coronavirus, call the state hotline at 1-888-364-3065 and talk directly to the experts.
  3. Plans to travel outside of the United States today through the end of the Spring 2020 semester, please immediately notify your direct supervisor. (Students should contact MCC Student Services at studentservices@monroecc.edu.) Because the coronavirus epidemic situation is rapidly changing and impacting a growing number of countries, our concern is that traveling persons may not be able to easily return to the U.S. and to campus.

As of today, SUNY has suspended study abroad programs in China, Iran, Italy, Japan, and South Korea. SUNY has also cancelled campus-sponsored travel outside of the U.S. to impacted countries for the spring semester. (SUNY media release)

All individuals planning to travel should seek advice on the potential hazards in their chosen destinations and understand how best to protect their health. The World Health Organization offers travel advice online. Students and faculty returning from impacted countries or regions of impacted countries may be required to be quarantined for 14 days upon return before returning to campus.

SUNY's COVID-19 Task Force will guide all 64 campuses, including MCC, on a daily basis. Thank you for your efforts, understanding, and cooperation.
