Passing of David Leach, Applied Technologies Retiree

The MCC family mourns the passing of David Leach, a retired instructor in the Applied Technologies Department, on March 10, 2023.

He joined MCC as a lecturer in the Tooling and Machining Program with the Applied Technologies Department in 1994, bringing with him more than a decade of experience in the advanced manufacturing industry and six years as an industrial arts teacher. He was promoted to the position of instructor in Applied Technologies in 2000 and earned tenure a few years later.

Mr. Leach was well respected by colleagues and area industry. He was a skilled instructor who had an excellent rapport with his students. Because of his experience in the field, he knew what employers expect from entry-level technicians and worked diligently to instill those skills into his students.

His service to the College included advisorships to the Mini-Baja Design Team (car club) and the Engineering Leadership Council for many years, helping coach the MCC student participants to victory in the SUNY Two Year Engineering Science Association competition in 1998 and 2004. He also served various capacities in the high school engineering and machining competitions, both held in partnership with MCC. In addition, he participated in the Faculty Senate and sat on several committees.

After 22 years of service, Mr. Leach retired in 2016.

Mr. Leach attended Corning Community College and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from SUNY Oswego.

He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Pamela. He is survived by wife Peggy; four children; six grandchildren; a brother and a sister; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 5:30pm, May 13 at his home. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Rochester Animal Services, 184 Verona St, Rochester, NY 14608. His obituary is available on The (Corning) Leader’s website.

MCC extends condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. We are grateful for his many contributions and service to MCC.
