MCC athletic program, softball team honored by legislature

The MCC athletic program and the title-winning softball team were honored by the Monroe County Legislature Tuesday evening.

The Tribune athletic program was honored for winning the Pepsi NATYCAA Cup for the second straight year.  The Pepsi Cup is given annually to the top junior college athletic programs in the nation based on performance at national tournaments.

MCC won a national title in one sport, came in second in three others, and third in two more.  A trophy was awarded, as was a $2,500 award for the college's general scholarship fund.

The MCC softball team was also honored after winning its second consecutive national title. The Tribunes finished with an amazing 52-2 record and ended the season on a 35-game winning streak. MCC had a team batting average of .455 and boasted the nation's individual leader in home runs, runs batted in, runs scored, and hits.
