Green Tip - Reusable Shopping Bags
On April 22, 2019 Governor Cuomo signed the New York State Bag Waste Reduction Act. The sale of single-use plastic bags in New York will be banned as of March 1, 2020. Plastic bags will still be allowed for uncooked meat/fish/poultry, bulk items (produce, candy), sliced or prepared foods, newspapers (delivered), prescription drugs, carryout orders at restaurants/taverns, garment bags, and bags prepackaged for sale to a customer (trash bags, food storage bags).
Monroe County has a new reusable shopping bag that they are giving out on a limited basis. This new reusable bag folds into a pocket, easy to keep in your purse, car, or anywhere you need on the go. Pick one up for free, while supplies last, at the Farmer's Market locations and dates below:
- Tuesday, August 6 Westside Farmers Market 3pm-8pm
- Thursday, August 8 Penfield Farmers Market 4pm- 7:30pm
