Spring 2025 Mentors Needed for COS 181, Strategies for Academic Progress

Thank you to all our past and current COS 181 mentors.

If you are interested in being a mentor for the spring 2025 semester, please let us know by completing the COS 181 Mentor Interest Survey.

COS 181 is designed for students who are striving to achieve Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and to advance in their program of study. A key component of this course is a connection with a mentor in the College community.

Anyone who works at Monroe Community College can be a mentor. In our mentoring program, we strive to:

  • encourage students to create conditions that will help them thrive
  • cultivate curiosity and engage with a spirit of genuine care
  • practice being deep listeners and reflective questioners
  • support students on their journey at MCC (and beyond!)
  • create a transformational experience for both mentees and mentors

Being a mentor involves scheduling an initial meeting with your student either in person, by phone, through email, or on Zoom, and reaching out to your student regularly (suggested 1x per week) to discuss their well-being and progress. As a mentor, you’ll assist your mentee in finding campus resources, talk with your student about their current academic situation, co-create goals for their next steps, and - most importantly - encourage to support your student.

If you are considering becoming a mentor and looking for more information, feel free to reach out to Renee Dimino (rdimino@monroecc.edu).

All those who are signed up to be a mentor will be invited to a Mentor Information Meeting (recorded for those unable to attend) as well as optional mentor check-in meetings throughout the semester.

Thanks for considering!
