OER News Flash

Cristin Finch and Kristen Killion (Health and Physical Education) were awarded a SUNY OER Impact Grant in June to develop open textbooks for HED 130-Foundations of Personal Health and Wellness, and HED 212-Women’s Health and Wellness. Student savings over the course of an academic year is projected at more than $200,000.  Way to go Cristin and Kristen!

As we embark on the familiarity of another fall semester, there are some upcoming opportunities for ways that “open” can enhance your teaching and student engagement:

  • In today's digital age, harnessing technology to enhance the educational experience is paramount. Hypothes.is is an innovative web annotation tool that empowers both educators and students to collaborate and interact with digital content. With Hypothes.is, users can annotate web pages, PDFs, and other digital resources, allowing for real-time discussions, commentary, and analysis within the content itself. This platform opens up a world of possibilities for engaging with course materials, fostering critical thinking, and promoting active learning. Hypothes.is is presenting a webinar, “The Secret is Out! - Learn how Hypothesis Boosts Student Engagement” on Thursday, September 7th at 12:00pm, if you’d like to learn more.
  • SUNY OER Services’ SUNY OER Summit, "OER in Focus: Innovations, Impact, and Implementation", will be held October 11 and 12.  This virtual event is dedicated to sharing best practices and insights in the field of Open Educational Resources and Open Pedagogy. The summit aims to bring together educators, administrators, researchers, and practitioners from SUNY and beyond to explore innovative approaches, successful case studies, and emerging trends in OER.
