SUNY's Sustainability Officer Visits MCC's Brighton Campus
Carter H. Strickland Jr., the first sustainability officer and executive director of climate action for the State University of New York (SUNY), visited Monroe Community College’s Brighton Campus Thursday to discuss the university system’s ambitious plan to achieve the state’s sustainability goals. Strickland joined SUNY after more than 30 years of experience implementing environmental solutions, including leading the Trust for Public Land’s New York and Mid-Atlantic offices and serving as the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.
While at MCC, Strickland took a tour of campus, met with educators and leadership, and closed out this visit with a presentation of the SUNY Sustainability & Climate Action Plan Presentation (PDF). The plan includes actions related to education, research, facilities, and operations for SUNY’s 64 colleges and universities. These campuses of these dozens of schools account for 40% of all state-owned assets, and more than 1,800 academic buildings cover nearly 60 million square feet.
SUNY encourages people to read the report and provide feedback on the SUNY Climate and Sustainability Action Plan website.
