MCC Libraries' College Researcher: A Valuable Addition to Your Fall Courses

College Researcher, MCC Libraries' award-winning collection of online tutorials on college-level research skills, is available for use in your Fall courses in Brightspace! You can find it under "My Courses" in Brightspace, or simply log in and click on MCC College Researcher.

Each mission is designed to be used as a coherent whole, but if you prefer, you can also access just the videos on the MCC Libraries YouTube Channel. College Researcher is licensed under Creative Commons (CC-BY 4.0), allowing you to share and adapt the content with proper attribution to MCC Libraries.

Incorporating MCC College Researcher into Your Class:  Here are step-by-step guidelines for adding the MCC College Researcher as an assignment in your course. Feel free to modify as needed.

Instructions:

  1. In your Brightspace course, navigate to Assessments > Assignments > New Assignment.

  2. For the Title, enter: MCC College Researcher.

  3. Under Grade out of, assign points according to your grading scheme.

  4. Set the Due Date based on your course schedule.

  5. In the Instructions field, copy and paste the following text:
The MCC College Researcher is a set of “missions” (tutorials) designed to help you develop college-level research skills. As you complete three missions (Library Navigator, Online Explorer, and Strategic Searcher), you’ll earn digital “mission badge” certificates. These certificates will culminate in the Inquisitive Explorer Adventure Badge. Visit the MCC College Researcher to start your missions. Once you receive your Inquisitive Explorer Adventure Badge certificate via email, download the file and upload it below.

  6. Place the assignment in your desired location within the course and ensure it is correctly incorporated into your grade book.

  7. Grading is straightforward: review the submitted certificate and award credit for completion, as you would with any other assignment.

Questions? Please feel free to contact Dax Parasnis-Samar (dparasnissamar@monroecc.edu) if you need assistance with setting up the assignment in your course.
