Essayist Barry Lopez will present a curriculum workshop for educators on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the Campus Center Empire Room on MCC's Brighton Campus.
Lopez is an essayist and a short story writer who has traveled extensively to remote parts of the world. He is the prize-winning author of numerous books, short stories, nonfiction and essays.
According to the late author Edward Abbey, Arctic Dreams "is a splendid book, passionate and compassionate, by a man who is both a first-rate writer and an uncompromising defender of the wild country and its native inhabitants. In other words, a hero."
Lopez has received the Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the John Burroughs Medal, the John Hay Award for 2001, Pushcart Prizes in both fiction and nonfiction and a Lannan Foundation Fellowship. His work has appeared in Harper's, The Paris Review, Orion and The Georgia Review.
