Alexis Arnold, reporter with 13WHAM News (Channel 13), interviewed two MCC students and Applied Technologies Chair Kevin French about an increased interest among women to pursue careers in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning / Refrigeration (HVAC/R). Ashley Smith and Mehgan Pradia are among five women out of 195 students enrolled in MCC’s HVAC/R degree and certificate programs, the largest female enrollment the program has seen in the past five years. They are also among seven students statewide recognized recently for pursuing careers that are not traditional for their gender.
The news report aired in the Thursday evening (April 26) broadcast: https://www.13wham.com/news/local/story/MCC-HVAC-women-non-traditional-careers/cB4-nRYWqUSRqvJmK2tM6Q.cspx
Ashley works as a full-time parking service representative at Strong hospital. She expects to complete her studies in December and hopes to transfer to the facilities department at UofR/Strong.
Mehgan, who holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, expects to graduate in June and pursue a career as an HVAC/R mechanical engineer.
