The Week Ahead

The office of Student Life & Leadership Development presents the following events for next week (please share with students):

Lunar New Year:

  • Saturday, February 8th, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Brighton Campus Monroe A/B

Join us this Saturday for the 2025 Lunar New Year Festival hosted by MCC’s Global Union, Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs (APAPA) and WXXI.

Student Life Fair- Downtown Campus:

  • Wednesday, February 12th, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, Downtown Campus 2nd Floor

Clubs and Organizations will be highlighting the opportunities to get involved. The variety of clubs, whether academic, social or cultural, will enhance your MCC experience. Most of all, it is your opportunity to talk with many of the student leaders, the Office of Student Life & Leadership Development staff and faculty advisors.

Love Lab:

  • Wednesday, February 12th, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, Brighton Campus Prism Multicultural Center & Brick Lounge

The First Year Experience, Campus Activities Board and Global Union are putting a Love Lab together! Learn how cultures around the world spread love. Enjoy activities and snacks!

Visiting Creative Writing Alumnus – Justine Alfano:

Justine Alfano received her AA degree in Creative Writing from MCC in 2023. One of her nonfiction essays won first place for its category at MCC and went on to win a National League of Innovation Student Literary Award. In her senior year, she worked as an intern for BOA Editions, a non-profit publisher of poetry in Rochester. She now is the Director of Production at BOA.

Brothers and Sisters Halaqa

  • Friday, February 14th, 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Brighton Campus Monroe A/B

The Muslim Student Association is hosting a Brothers and Sisters Halaqa event, an Islamic gathering aimed at providing a welcoming space for student to learn more about Islam, engage in thoughtful discussions, and foster a sense of community.

Other News:

  • Department of Human Services (DHS): Will be on the Brighton Campus on Wednesday, February 12th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm outside of The Office of Student Life and Leadership, room 3-126. DHS staff will be providing information on SNAP, HEAP, safe sleep, child support, child care subsidies, emergency & temporary assistance, and mental health resources.
