TCC: Day 5 of TCC Gratitude Series: Kudos to You, Engineering and Technology

Today, I want to celebrate the ongoing success, passion, and dedication of my colleagues in Engineering Technologies, Engineering Science and Physics, and Information and Computer Technology. Your hard work and commitment do not go unnoticed—thank you for everything you do!

Sue Noonan (Engineering Technologies)

I would like to take a moment to publicly thank Sue Noonan for her outstanding contributions to the Engineering Technologies Department this past year. As the Community Liaison for the Optical Systems Technology program (OST), Sue has been instrumental in managing all student-related activities within OST. Her dedication and organizational skills have ensured that students receive the support they need to succeed.

In addition to her primary responsibilities, Sue has seamlessly taken on additional duties during our department's transition without a full-time secretary. Her efforts have been the glue that holds our department together, ensuring smooth operations and continuous support for both faculty and students.

Sue's unwavering commitment and exceptional work ethic have made a significant difference to me personally, to our students, and to the entire MCC community. We are all deeply grateful for everything she does.

Thank you, Sue, for your remarkable dedication and for being an invaluable member of our team.

William Hunt (Engineering Technologies, Department Chair)

I would like to recognize William Hunt for his consistent support and guidance. Whether it was navigating administrative procedures, improving my teaching approach, or understanding campus services, he always pointed me in the right direction with clarity and patience. His leadership has been a steady source of reassurance and encouragement throughout the semester.

Pasquale Dilucia (Engineering Technologies, completed the SYFS-Second Year Faculty Series)

I would like to recognize Pasquale Dilucia for his outstanding support both inside and outside the classroom. He has been instrumental in helping me with lab activities, classroom dynamics, and building strong student-teacher relationships. Beyond that, his guidance in professional areas such as teaching, research, and service has been invaluable. He is always willing to listen, offers thoughtful advice, and consistently provides a supportive and collaborative presence.

Mike Pomerantz (ENT - Optical Systems Technology (OST)

While most faculty members are able to focus their energies on their courses and students, Mike consistently goes above and beyond these duties to handle key equipment acquisitions, installations, and upgrades for the OST department.  He is frequently seen working after hours, on weekends, and over college break weeks to manage these activities which are vital to ensure state-of-the-art equipment is available to educate OST students.

Students to MCC Faculty

Benjamin Schermerhorn (Engineering Science and Physics), Receiving two nominations

  • Dr. Ben is an amazing professor. He always puts in so much effort and you can really tell that he cares about his students not only succeeding in his classes but also understanding the concepts.
  • Dr. Ben is an asset too MCC, he is a teacher that really sets you up for success. I know many students who come from many other colleges or straight from high school to be able to take classes with Dr. Ben, as he really sets a solid foundation for science and engineering majors. If not for him, I would not pursuing engineering here, he has been my inspiration to believe that I can do this. When I don't understand material, he takes the time out of his busy schedule to sit with me one on one to make sure I understand.  He has never once made me doubt his ability as a teacher, he has gone above and beyond. I am not alone in these thoughts, every time you see him, he is surrounded by students that adore him as a teacher and continue to try despite the tough material simply because he won't give up on them as a student. He is irreplaceable, truly.

Alexis Vogt (Engineering Technology)

Professor Vogt goes above and beyond for her students. She is encouraging and kind to everyone, and her passion for optics is contagious. No other professor has inspired me so profoundly. I’ve learned so much from her. She makes everyone feel welcome and valued in the program. She is one of the people that inspired me to pursue a four-year degree. Even though I have only been in the program for one semester, thanks to her, I feel at home.

Bruce Link (Information and Computer Technology)

My favorite aspects about Link's class is how he has it structured and how far he is willing to go to make sure you understand the material. Link does not really care for grades and truly cares for understanding in his students. His lectures are easy to understand, he genuinely enjoys when people have questions about the material, and his labs are great for using the material you learn in class. Link is my favorite professor so far and I am happy to be taking more of his classes in the future.
