Day 4 of our gratitude series: Kudos to MCC Faculty Association, FRC and Division Chairs

Day 4 of TCC gratitude continues kudos with from faculty and staff to faculty and staff. Today’s recognized  departments are the members of the FRC, MCC Faculty Association and the division chairs.

Bethany Gizzi (President, MCC Faculty Association, Professor, AHPS):

  • Much gratitude to our FA President Bethany Gizzi and the FRC for devoting so much work and effort into defending our colleagues. Many of us are able to maintain hope knowing that Bethany and the FRC are scrutinizing the College's finances and layoff proposal, informing the ELT of potential contract violations, and brainstorming alternate methods of saving the College money. We are grateful to have such a smart, dedicated, creative, and strong team guiding us through this time.

Becky Babcock (Faculty Senate President, School of Health Science and Physical Wellness):

  • Becky has been an invaluable source of information for me as I advise students in the health-Related Programs. She responds so quickly to emails and phone calls! She is often answering emails outside of regular working hours - both early in the morning and into the evening. Thank you, Becky, for all that you do for our students and for faculty members.

Members of the FRC:

  • Thank you so much for the advocacy you have done for teaching faculty this semester! Your organization, attention to detail, and tireless devotion have not gone unnoticed!

Faculty Senate Executive Committee:

  • I joined the Faculty Senate Executive Committee during the spring semester to fill for the Curriculum Chair.  I was immediately blown away by the professionalism, intelligence and commitment to our institution that is on display each week during our meetings by these individuals.  The EC works so hard behind the scenes to ensure institutional effectiveness.  We are so lucky that these colleagues are giving of their time to serve in these demanding leadership roles.

Kudos from Faculty to Division Chairs:

Eric Berg (ESOL & Transitional Studies)

  • I see Eric as a respected colleague, professor, and friend. Eric became chair of the ESOL/TRS department in a year that was full of upheaval for that department. Throughout all that upheaval, he retained his focus on student success and well-being. He also maintained a steady professionalism with his colleagues even as the very department he leads was in flux. I know when students tell me that he is their professor, that he will work tirelessly with them to support their success.
  • I have been at MCC for over ten years and never had the courage to apply for a promotion. I was about to let another year slip by, but Eric sent me an email and encouraged me to submit my paperwork. I'm grateful he took time out of his day to do such a kind gesture

Jason Flack (VAPA):

  • Jason has not only taken on being the Director of the Mercer Gallery and being the VaPA Chair, but he is also on the Senate and still teaches 2 classes.  I have no idea where he finds the time or energy to take on all these rolls and do them all as well as he does.  He still finds time to see how we are all doing both in our work and personal lives in the department, not only our Faculty, but our students as well as admins, assistants and other non-faculty staff.  We are truly blessed to have him here at MCC.

Jessica Barone (Geology & Chemistry):

  • Jessica is a tireless advocate for the faculty in her department. She has spoken bravely on our behalf and has consistently refuted the argument that chemists and geoscientists are underutilized. Thank you so much for your advocacy!
