Games Reading Group Starts 9/25
There are a few openings left for the TCC reading group on Games: Agency as Art by C. Thi Nguyen. Nguyen’s work explores games as an artform by which players immerse themselves in rule-guided activities where the game gives them a goal. By immersing themselves, players assume the goals of the game and learn modes of agency that transcend the game itself. Games are analogous to letting yourself get absorbed in the characters of a movie and gaining insight into one’s motivations and capacities for new forms of agency.
This reading group is for you if you:
- Want to introduce an element of play into their syllabus
- Deepen your understanding of why video games appeal to our students
- Construct educational games for your classroom
- Delight in the flexibility found in various modes of agency
- Learn about the phenomenon of ‘value capture” in which organizations use the motivational power of games for their own ends.
Scheduled meetings:
- 9/25, 3:30 to 5pm
- 10/23, 3:30 to 5pm
- 11/20, 3:30 to 5pm
- 12/11, 3:30 to 5pm
All meetings are in the TCC room, 12-201.
