TCC (Brighton Campus): Spring Conversation #1 - Reality Check: Implicit Bias
Please join us on Monday, Feb. 3, from 12:00-12:50 p.m., in 12-201, as the TCC resumes the year-long focus on Cia Verschelden's book Bandwidth Recovery: Helping Students Reclaim Cognitive Resources Lost to Poverty, Racism, and Social Marginalization.
In this conversation, we will look to Verna Myers for how and why we should lean in to our biases. We will take the Harvard Implicit Association test and gain some insight into our own implicit biases. Discussion will center around our impressions of the results and what we can do about it.
Part II of Bandwidth Recovery focuses on socio/psychological underminers that impact students' in higher education. Understanding our own implicit biases is a first step towards taking positive action to help students recover bandwidth.
If possible, please bring a smartphone, tablet or laptop to access the online test.
All faculty and staff are welcome.
