Chancellor King and the SUNY Board of Trustees Statement on Governor Hochul's Executive Budget Proposal

We are grateful for Governor Kathy Hochul’s unwavering commitment to higher education. Even in a challenging fiscal environment, the Governor’s FY 25 Executive Budget builds on last year’s historic $163 million increase in operating aid by delivering on the state’s promise for an additional $54 million increase for state-operated campuses. The Executive Budget also includes needed resources to support capital improvements across SUNY.

“The Executive Budget maintains vital investment in SUNY’s community colleges by avoiding the loss of $85 million through continuing the 100% community college funding floor. In addition, Governor Hochul’s fiscal plan ensures significant investment in workforce development to deliver training for high-demand, growing fields and contribute to upward mobility for all New Yorkers.

“We are excited that the Governor’s budget documents deliver on important initiatives included in the 2024 State of the State agenda. This includes Governor Hochul’s groundbreaking vision for New York State to serve as a national leader in artificial intelligence research and economic development through the Empire AI Consortium, as well as the Governor’s vital proposal to eliminate barriers to higher education by making FAFSA completion universal for high school seniors.

“SUNY will continue to act as responsible stewards of these public funds as we pursue our agenda for excellence and ensure there is a place at SUNY for all New Yorkers.

“We thank Governor Hochul for her leadership and unprecedented support of public higher education, and look forward to working with our partners in the legislature throughout the budget process.”
