Updated COVID-19 Guidance for Fall 2022 / Spring 2023 Semester

With COVID-19 conditions continuing to improve locally and nationally and as we move into the endemic phase of the virus, MCC will modify health and safety protocols for the fall 2022 / spring 2023 semester based on the latest federal, state and county guidance.*

In accordance with updated SUNY guidance, effective Wednesday, November 23 MCC will:

  • No longer require routine COVID testing for students with a regular physical presence on campus who has an approved medical or religious exemption.
  • No longer require routine COVID testing for employees who are unvaccinated or have an approved medical or religious exemption. Agreements with union associations on an employee testing mandate expired on August 31, 2022.
  • Cease MCC testing center’s regular operations in the Gilman Lounge (3-114). Testing capability will remain in place to support resident-students, student-athletes, and students in academic programs (e.g., health professions) with more stringent testing requirements.

Elimination of the testing mandate shifts the responsibility for COVID testing to the individual. Students and employees who show symptoms or who are exposed to someone who tests positive can obtain home test kits widely available through their health care provider, urgent care or a local pharmacy.

Vaccination exemption requests from students and employees will continue to be received and reviewed.

Remember, if you:

  • feel ill, do not come to campus. Contact your health care provider or urgent care.
  • test positive for COVID-19, send your test results to Student Rights and Health Services. You must also notify your professors. Your name and personal information will remain confidential. Plan to isolate for at least 5 days and follow your county's directives (Monroe County directives). 
  • are asymptomatic and opt to test after exposure to COVID-19, wait five days before testing.

The updated MCC health and safety protocols aim to provide students, faculty and staff with the maximum amount of flexibility while recognizing that the virus will remain in our communities well into the future. MCC will continue regularly assessing current conditions to adapt to any changing guidance for the spring 2023 semester.
