TCC: Fall Conversation on Dec. 2--Connecting Connections: Helping Students See Relationships Between Courses

We often speak about breaking down "silos" in higher education, usually in the context of the structures of departments and divisions that can impede collaboration or change. But what about the silos that students encounter as they move from class to class? When students move from philosophy to biology to business to algebra (and so on) on a given day, what connections and relevance are they seeing between them?

While students often approach their classes as separate boxes to check off, research shows that understanding cross-disciplinary connections deepens learning. Please join us on Monday, Dec. 2, from 12:00 to 12:50 PM, to discuss how. This conversation will focus on the importance of helping students bridge content and skills across disciplines. Panelists will discuss pedagogical approaches, practical classroom activities, opportunities for learning communities, and techniques for connecting coursework to career paths and real-world scenarios.

  • When: Monday, Dec. 2, 12:00 to 12:50 PM
  • Where: Brighton Campus TCC (12-201) with remote option to join via Zoom

All faculty and staff are welcome!

The event is designed to meet the following goal of the Teaching and Creativity Center's programming:

  • Goal 1: Create a culture of critical reflection, continual growth, and collaboration for faculty at all stages of professional growth
  • Goal 2: Promote evidence-based, high-impact, innovative course design and teaching strategies that improve student outcomes
