Travels with Tiberius - Chemistry Club's Ice Cream Social
The Chemistry Club held a free ice cream social last week. The best part? The club members made the ice cream from scratch! When Tiberius heard about this, he couldn’t pass up a chance to have free food!
Veronica: What did the Chemistry Club use to make the ice cream?
Tiberius: They had heavy cream and vitamin D/whole milk (isn’t that basically cream?), and chocolate sauce, and I think I saw vanilla flavoring. I am not sure. It is hard to see with this dark helmet and shield on.
Veronica: How did the liquid transform into ice cream?
Tiberius: Oh, this was so cool! They took something called liquid nitrogen from this tank and poured it into the bowl with the liquids and one of the students slowly stirred it with a wooden spoon. They had to wear safety glasses and big oven mitts so they didn’t get burned (it’s odd, right? Getting burned with something cold? Well, at least for me!)
Veronica: We did see you almost got yourself into trouble.
Tiberius: Yeah, I saw the tank and thought it would be fun to climb on it. I didn’t realize it had liquid nitrogen in it. Whoops!
Veronica: So, when it was finished, how did it taste?
Tiberius: It tasted so much like real vanilla ice cream. I guess that is because it really was!
Veronica: Did you save some ice cream for everyone else?
Tiberius: Yes. I felt my stomach expanding even though I am flat!

Photo caption: A photo collage of a bulletin board with ten photos in polaroid-type frames. Tiberius, the flat 8 ½ by 11 cut out on the left hand side of the photo along with the text: "Travels with Tiberius." Within the various photo frames, Tiberius is shown in various places in the Chemistry lab including with a spoon with ice cream near what would be his mouth; on top of a white tank, in front of students stirring the ice cream in a big bowl with a cloud of nitrogen around it; by bottles of fudge topping, and with two students in the background stirring the ice cream.
