Update on the General Education Policy/Procedure

Last week, the General Education policy and procedure were placed in the policy portal for comment. In light of the considerable general education curriculum revisions that have been completed and the upcoming Senate vote on the Institutional Learning Outcomes, we have removed the policy and procedure from the portal in order to update the document to reflect the work completed as of the end of this semester. The revised documents will be put back in the portal next fall after faculty have returned for the semester.

The policy and procedure will need to be revisited once MCC reaches the conclusion of the General Education revisions. We would like to move forward with this two-step approach—revising once this fall and then again at some point after that. The first revision will include not only the changes related to work done thus far in implementing SUNY’s new General Education framework but also capture a change related to offering an Associate in Occupational Studies (AOS) degree that we are seeking board approval for as soon as is practical. The secondary revisions will take place at some point in the future in order to adjust the language relative to our full transition away from MCC’s Local General Education requirements and to the new SUNY framework.

We understand the importance of transparency and effective communication at MCC and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to ensure that all policies are reviewed thoroughly and communicated effectively.

We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your ongoing support.
