MCC will bid farewell to longtime athletic director Murph Shapiro in a retirement celebration at Locust Hill Country Club on April 30, 2010.
Shapiro is retiring after 41 years at MCC, including the past 19 as AD. The party will start at 6 p.m. and tickets are $65 per person. If you are interested in attending or need more information, please call Lisa Curatalo at 292-2830.
Under Shapiro MCC has experienced an unprecedented level of athletic success. Tribune teams have won 102 regional and 13 national championships during his tenure as athletic director. The college has twice won the NATYCAA Cup (2006 and 2007), which is given annually to recognize overall athletic program excellence based on success in national competition.
Shapiro also coached the MCC men's basketball team from 1969-1985, accumulating an overall record of 329-113. He became athletic director in 1991.
