What are you Waitlisting For?  Lab or Lecture?

Many high demand courses have electronic wait lists available.  When a class reaches maximum enrollment capacity, the course is said to be “closed”.  A student will not be able to register for a "closed" class but will be given an option to be put on a Waitlist also referred to as being "Waitlisted".

As you may know, the college has implemented an automatic waitlist notification system for the fall 2014 semester.

When a spot opens up in the class, the student is automatically and immediately notified by email (MCC) telling them to register.  The student is given 72 hours to respond and register themselves into the class, changing their status from “Waitlist” to “Web Registered”.

The biggest challenge with the Automatic Waitlist notification is the Lab/Lecture combos.  For a lab/lecture combo class, the lab drives the Waitlist.  So the student must waitlist only for the lab. When a spot becomes available for the student to register, the student must choose the “Web Registered” option and add the associated Lecture (CRN) in the boxes below.  If they do not complete this successfully, they will get a “link error”’ and will be unable to register.

One of the many benefits of this system is that a student’s real-time waitlist position is listed in the Student Detail Schedule in Self-Service Banner / MyMCC.  The student’s position can be checked anytime saving them time and resources.

Nearly all of our fall classes are included in the automatic waitlist process.  However, there are a few exclusions that will be processed manually:  They are:

Ø  All BIO classes except BIO 120 & 142 –  please contact Susan Warner, BIO department at 292-2720 with questions

Ø  HSP 102 (Hospitality Service) which has Lecture, Lab and Conference components – please contact Lori DeWaters at 292-2300 with questions

The week before (starting August 24) classes start, the student’s notification time to register from the waitlist will be reduced from 72 hours to 24 hours. The automatic Waitlist notification process will be turned off the Friday, August 29, before classes start.
