SUNY to Offer Scholarships for Nurses in a Master's of Nursing Program!
The State University of New York (SUNY) is actively addressing the ongoing healthcare workforce shortage in New York State. In 2023, they convened the SUNY Future of Healthcare Workforce Task Force, which identified four priority areas for short-term action and investment, including enhancing SUNY’s healthcare educator pipeline.
SUNY is excited to announce the launch of the SUNY Healthcare Educator Scholarship, a new pilot program designed to cover tuition and fees and provide a stipend to baccalaureate-prepared nurses pursuing a master’s degree in nursing. In return, recipients will commit to a three-year faculty position at a SUNY community college nursing program.
By investing in the next generation of nursing educators, this program will expand program capacity, strengthen the healthcare workforce, and help address the projected shortage of 40,000 registered nurses in New York State by 2030.
Kudos to President Dr. DeAnna R. Burt-Nana for participating in the task force!
This scholarship is a fantastic opportunity for community colleges to continue to build much-needed nursing programs and to add nurses to the healthcare field. If you or anyone you know is a practicing nurse with a BSN and would like financial help to complete a master’s degree in nursing and has a desire to teach and mentor in this field.
Applications are due May 30, 2025.
