Academic or Attendance Warning (or Both!)

I wanted Deb Benjamin to write this brief note to you because she can make the most mundane topics enjoyable.  Also, I know that you read her articles more than you read mine.  But she is actually out of the office attending a Room Scheduling Conference in Kansas City this week.  Yes, it is strange that room scheduling conferences are actually offered, but even stranger that the conferences are full each year!

Back to the real purpose of this article --- the online academic or attendance warning system in Banner Self Service has been improved by our ETS staff.  (Thanks Deb Watson!)  The warning menu choice is located at the bottom of the Faculty Services page and can be used by teaching staff to alert students to academic or attendance issues (or a combination of both) in the course.  The process is simple and requires little effort on your part:

1.  Click the menu option: Academic or Attendance Warning.
2.  Select the term (be sure to check the current term and not the future default term).  Click Submit.
3.  Choose the student you'd like to receive the warning.  Click Next Page (at bottom).
4.  Choose Poor Attendance or Poor Academic Performance or choose Both Boxes
5.  Choose Submit if this is the only student to report.  Choose Sumbit & Report Another student if you want to go back to the roster to send more warnings to students in the course.

The letters will be (magically) sent out the following business day.  You can see a copy of the various letter varieties by clicking the HELP key in the upper right hand portion of the form while in the Academic or Attendance Warning section of Banner.

Unfortunately, a record of the letter being sent is not stored in a location where self service users can check to see which students were sent warning letters.  You'll need to keep a record of that information in an alternate location until this service can be upgraded.  In summer 2009, we will go live with the next version of Banner which may offer new and improved services for all of us.

As always, please contact us if you have problems, comments or advice.
