Join Rochester AmeriCorps for a discussion of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Drum Major Instinct

Rochester AmeriCorps invites members of the college community to join us for a facilitated discussion of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s sermon, "The Drum Major Instinct," on Friday, January 6, from 3:00 to 4:15 PM in High Falls A & B at the Downtown Campus.

Supported by a grant from Humanities NY, this discussion is part of our Meaning of Service programming that seeks to connect people through conversations based on texts and other media that are focused on what it means to be civically engaged and active in the community.

We will listen to and discuss an audio excerpt of King's sermon, originally delivered at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA on February 4, 1968, exactly two months before his assassination on April 4 in Memphis, TN. This sermon activates concepts of service to others and our human desire to, in King's words, "...be out in front, our desire to lead the parade."

No RSVP is necessary. All are welcome to join!
