MCC and H1N1

H1N1 flu is impacting communities across the country. Last week, Washington State University reported 2,000 students with flu-like symptoms (none requiring hospitalization) in the first 10 days of the fall semester. We expect members of the MCC family will come down with the flu; we can minimize its spread by following these common-sense preventive measures:

·         Hand washing is still the most effective way to avoid illness. In lieu of hand washing, hand sanitizers (such as Purell) will also kill germs. MCC has placed hand sanitizing stations across our campuses.

·         Avoid contact with persons who are sneezing or coughing.

·         Eat nutritious food, and make sure you get adequate sleep.

·         Get a seasonal flu shot; it may offer some protection from H1N1 symptoms.  Human Resources will be offering seasonal flu vaccine for employees on
Oct. 6 and 7; Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance will cover the cost of the employee vaccination.

If you come down with flu-like symptoms, please isolate yourself in order to minimize the chances that you will spread the virus to others.
