MCC Public Safety joins Monroe County in Planning for Natural Disaster Response

The Public Safety Department, through the Office of the Coordinator of Strategic Planning, has joined at the invitation of the Monroe County Office of Emergency Management, efforts to review and update Natural Disaster planning and response for the County of Monroe.

MCC Emergency Manager Chuck DiSalvo has joined colleagues from the Monroe County Department of Public Safety, County Office of Emergency Management, Department of Environmental Services, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a participant with the projects’ Steering Committee, and will be providing insight and suggestive corrective measures regarding prevention, response, mitigation, and recovery efforts from natural disasters that effect Monroe County and its residents.

The Steering Committee will focus its efforts on updating existing natural disaster planning and the creation of new plans that will address disaster related concerns for Monroe County such as the control of invasive species, pandemic and infectious disease, severe weather, drought mitigation, radiological incident response, and the adverse effects of climate change on County residents and infrastructure.

MCC Emergency Manager Chuck DiSalvo will be an active participant with this project and will serve the Steering Committee through the provision of planning and suggestive policy adoption pertaining to the subjects of radiological incident response and matters addressing severe weather incident planning and response. Chuck will serve at the request of the Monroe County Office of Emergency Management through the duration of this project, which is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2023.
